Windows Event ID Reference

Look up Windows Security/System event IDs, logons, lockouts, Kerberos.

Why this exists

Event Viewer is a wall of numbers. Knowing that 4625 is a failed logon, 4740 is a lockout, or 4771 is Kerberos pre-auth failure, with the logon-type and status codes, turns an account-lockout ticket into a five-minute fix.

How to use
  1. Search by event ID (4625) or symptom keyword (lockout, kerberos, rdp, bsod, schannel).
  2. Filter by source log (Security / System / Directory Service) and category to browse.
  3. Click any event to reveal common causes, what to check next, and the logon-type / status / Kerberos code tables.
